Seattle Japanese Gardens Engagement | Randi & Alex

I adore, adore and adore these two!  Randi + Alex are absolutely perfect together.  One of the things I love about them is how much I can relate to their story.   They are high school sweet hearts, just like me and my mister.  I love how incredibly natural they are together, which only made me more excited for their September wedding – wahoo!

R+A…  I had such a great time with you two.   Thank you a quadrillion times for being totally awesome!  Mwah  ~S

Seattle Japanese Garden Engagement Session Preview | Randi & Alex

I had such a great time with Randi & Alex this week, that I had to share a couple of images from their engagement session.  More to come soon!

Frivolous Friday | The Urkel and Gratefulness

If you’ve seen any of my Facebook posts this week, then you know I have spent a majority of the week nursing my little fella back to health.  As much as I would love to go on and on about the glamorous life of a stay-at-home Mom with a sick one at home… I’ll spare you the details.  Instead I thought I’d share some images of me strutting my stuff last summer.  I owe a big thank you to Nicole Bond of Inspired Joy Photography and Katie Brase of Katie Brase Photography for capturing this fantastic action shots.

This image just warms my heart and temperature.  Fellow photog’s, was it just me or was every Saturday hotter than the blue blazes last year?!

This is how you squat in a skirt ladies – legs together, knees to the side.

If you’re taller than 5 foot 8 inches, you may be asked to kneel so I can grab a shot of your boutonniere.  What can I say, I’m vertically challenged people.

Why the Urkel slouch, Saleina, why?!  I committing right here and now to rid myself of  “The Urkel” -  it’s just not pretty.

When I see these pictures I am filled with gratefulness.  They remind how hard I’ve worked and how far I’ve come, how much I love seeing the world through my camera, how inspired I am by each every love story I capture and how incredible my life truly is – even when I’m working a mop and playing nurse.

Happy Frivolous Friday!

Gig Harbor Inn Wedding by Saleina Marie | Amber + Kelvin

On a freeeeeezing cold day in January I hit the road for a mini road trip to Gig Harbor for Amber and Kelvin’s gorgeous winter wedding at the Gig Harbor Inn.  I loved everything about this winter wedding from Amber’s sheek shawl to the mustache flasks.  Amber and Kelvin have bigger than life personalities that I can’t get enough of.  It was such an honor to spend the day amongst these two and their super fun family and friends.

A+K… thank you a ba-zillion times for allowing me to capture your amazing wedding.  I absolutely adore you and can’t wait to see what the future has for you.  Mwah!!!

Amber’s is beautiful and Kelvin’s face says it all…  looove it!  I was eating up this natural setting and this smoking hot couple.

Oh man!  These bridesmaid were awesome.  It was so, so, so cold and they braved the outdoors just for Amber – that’s true friendship.  I love this top image because you can actually see their breath… brrh!

Frivolous Friday | Harebrained and Hiking

According to Merriam-Webster harebrained is defined as follows:

1:  foolish  2:  absurd, ridiculous

Friends, you might as well know right from the start – I have a lot of harebrained ideas.  Ideas like… hiking 2,000 vertical feet up the side of a mountain.  Absurd!  When we stopped at the Quilcene Ranger Station we had no idea what lay ahead.  We checked out the list of local hikes and I somehow managed to convince my otherwise logical husband to hike Mt. Walker with me.  It went something like this…

Me:  “What about this one?”

Him:  “It’s 2,000 feet UP over two miles?  I don’t know if we’re ready for that yet?”

Me:  “It’s only 2 miles.  We can do it!  It will be fun!”

Him:  “You’re nuts.”

Me:  “Come on, we can do it!”

Him:  “Ok, but I’m already trying to figure out how to forgive you for this.”

Me:  “Ha! Ha!  You’re funny.  Let’s go!!!”

Him:  “I’m serious.  This is crazy.”

Armed with my iPhone (DLSR’s are heavy, Friends) for proof of our accomplishment, we set out on our hike.  When we started I was energized, excited and optimistic - I mean how tough could it really be?  By the half-way point, my optimism was wavering and somewhere along the way I lost all hope that I’d ever make it.  Every other tree became my personal resting post and between huffs and puffs I confessed – “You were right, (huff, puff), I was wrong (huff, puff), 2,000 feet UP in two miles (huff, puff) is too much!”

Finally, after many breaks and a lot of encouragement we reached the top.  The view literally took what little breathe I had away.  As I stood there in complete awe of God’s creation, it hit me – I had given up.  I had taken my eye off the prize and I had given up on seeing the view from the top.  Not good, Friends, not good.  In those breathless moments on the trail, I couldn’t even remember why I had worked so hard to convince my husband to do this hike.  This is when I realized a couple things…

  1. It is vital to keep my eye on the prize.  Whatever I am doing whether it is hiking, raising children, running a business or being a good friend I can’t take my eye off the prize for one second.  I cannot let temporary pain distract me from my goals.  Pain is temporary, finishing is forever.  (I bet you could find that on Pinterest somewhere.)
  2. Who I surround myself with makes a big difference.  If I had set out on that hike alone, I would not have reached the summit.  I would have been three switchbacks away from the top and never seen that amazing view.  That is so not cool.  I am so blessed to have family and friends that support and encourage me when I lose my way.  Amen!

Harebrained ideas may be foolish and absurd, but I say the more harebrained the better!  If I wasn’t so harebrained then I would have never known the view from the top of Mt. Walker and I want to know the view from the top of every mountain in my life.

Side note -  This is what I am currently reading – I am loving it.  The best part is my kids actually think it’s about how I can clean the house better.  Do they not see the child caring that laundry basket? :-)

Happy Frivolous Friday!
